Roll- is a free entry into a Prize Tournament. Poker sites will offer Free Rolls
as a promotion or host them on a regular basis where the members of the site can
win small token prizes.
Token prizes are usually Points that can be accumulated over a period of time
and then turned into Real Money, depending on how many points you have
accumulated. Or points can count towards a ranking system and at the end of a
certain period of time, you are awarded a prize. Some Free Rolls will give the
top few players a Free Seat or Entry into a Real Money game.
The real money prizes that are won from Free Rolls may not be a large amount,
but the Poker Tournaments can be competitive and fun. I have been playing in
Free Rolls at Bugsys Club for awhile and have accumulated a little bit of Real
Money from just the Free Rolls. I then use the money that I win from the Free
Rolls to play the Real Money games. Its not a significant amount of money, but
for any beginner, its a great way to start playing online. When poker sites
offer bonuses for making a deposit into your account; this is when you want to
get some extra playing money into your account. Especially the 200% and 300%
deposit matches that a few poker sites promote, you defintely want to take
advantage of these offers.
If you decide to enter Free Rolls, be prepared to play against a large field of
players and a lot of maniacs – or players that play like maniacs. When I see
this happening, I sit back and play like a Buzzard – just waiting for the feeble
prey.
When the playing field has been narrowed down and a lot of the players have
dropped out of the tournaments, the real playing starts to occur. That is
because the players that were not as lucky or play bad are now gone. Players
tighten up a bit and you start to see the plays that are made at the real money
